When Jürgen Klopp assumed leadership of Liverpool in October 2015, he was given the chance to manage in the Premier League.

Following a prosperous seven-year tenure in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, Klopp took a brief hiatus from the game prior to moving to the German Anfield.

Throughout his playing career, Klopp made over 300 appearances. He began playing professionally in the 1980s with FSV Mainz 05 in the German football league's second division.

After taking over as head coach in 2001, he led the team he played for 11 years as a player to promotion in his third season of leadership.

Following his debut season in the Bundesliga, Klopp ended a 41-year wait to return to the top flight. He spent three seasons in the German top division and qualified for the UEFA Europa League in the 2005–06 season.

next the club's relegation to the 2. Bundesliga at the conclusion of the 2006–07 season, Klopp departed Mainz at the end of the next season after failing to clinch an immediate promotion.

After finishing 13th in the 2007–08 Bundesliga, Klopp was named manager of Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2008. His job was to rebuild the team.

After two seasons under his leadership, Dortmund finished sixth, and then fifth. Prior to this, Klopp had won the German Cup in the 2011–12 season in addition to back-to-back Bundesliga victories.

Dortmund advanced to the 2013 UEFA Champions League final under Klopp's direction, but they were defeated by Bayern Munich at Wembley Stadium. At the conclusion of the 2014–15 season, Klopp left his position as manager after seven years.

Liverpool announced on Thursday, October 8, 2015, that Klopp will take Brendan Rodgers' position at Anfield.

Although both games ended in defeat, Klopp guided Liverpool to the UEFA Champions League final in 2017–18 and the UEFA Europa League final in 2015–16.

But the following season, Klopp made a return trip to the Champions League final, this time leading his team to triumph with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

In the 2018–19 season, Klopp's Reds had an outstanding domestic campaign as well, trailing champion Manchester City by just one point and dropping just one Premier League game total.

Even better was the following season, as Klopp led Liverpool to their first Premier League triumph.

With seven games left, the Reds secured victory and equaled Manchester City's claimed 32 victories in the 2017–18 and 2018–19 seasons. They also set a new record for the early title win.
